Adults age 65 and older are at higher risk for contracting contagious illnesses and diseases such as the flu, and can have a more difficult time rebounding. That’s why it’s especially important to communicate to health plan members ways they can stay happy and healthy during the busy holiday season.

1. Flu Shots

Around 80 percent of flu-related deaths occur in adults age 65 and older, and the influenza vaccine is the most effective preventative measure available.

2. Safety First

Falls are a leading cause of injury in older adults. Don’t leave holiday packages or extension cords in walkways and keep high traffic areas clean and clear. Have a senior visiting? Consider taking preventative measures to help them stay safe and injury free.

3.  Be Social

Spending time with loved ones and learning new hobbies can reduce the risk of cognitive decline.
