Dr. Jonathan Rubens

CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER, CVS ACCOUNTABLE CARE ORGANIZATION

Dr. Rubens brings over 25 years of success as a physician leader in both academic and community settings to his role at CVS Health. He is passionate about how we use our considerable clinical breadth and depth as an organization to serve the health of diverse populations while ensuring that everyone we touch has equitable opportunity to improve their well-being. 

As Chief Medical Officer and Executive Director for CVS Health’s Accountable Care Organization, Dr. Rubens leads teams focused on program design, practice transformation, analytics, clinical documentation, and care coordination, who partner with providers to optimize value-based care delivery. He also provides thought leadership to internal and external audiences and fiercely advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusion as integral to our collective success.

Prior to this role Dr. Rubens held successive leadership roles during his 11-year tenure with ActiveHealth Management including serving as their Chief Medical Officer until 2022. In addition to his recent contributions at ActiveHealth, he has been instrumental in collaborating across the enterprise to design some of CVS Health’s most transformative new clinical products and programs. His knowledge of healthcare technology, systems integration, and clinical expertise helped guide key product design and implementation decisions.

Dr. Rubens is a diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and a fellow of both the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Wake Forest University.  He also holds a Master’s degree in Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Rubens hails from New York City and currently resides in North Carolina.
